How does the room size and clearance calculator work?
Clearance each side = (room width - mattress width - 2 x frame overhang) / 2. Clearance at foot = room length - mattress length - 2 x frame overhang. The calculation runs in your browser as you type, and the working is shown line by line beside the result so you can check it against your own measurements rather than taking the number on trust.
Are these figures an industry standard or a convention?
This is convention rather than a measured standard. Guidance such as replacement intervals, firmness by body weight, pillow loft by position and walking clearance is widely repeated across the industry but is not defined by any standards body. Treat the result as a sensible starting point, and use the figure your own manufacturer publishes wherever one exists.
What happens if I enter numbers outside the usual range?
